CE-fix® – making CE marking easy
 

CE labelling will be mandatory since 1 February 2010, posing a major challenge for manufacturers and suppliers of windows and doors. The testing procedures for the standard are extremely time-consuming and costly. Therefore, VBH has developed CE-fix® to offer a convenient and simple online solution to CE labelling. Manufacturers and suppliers can select their design from among 480 components and a million possible combinations and immediately print out all of the necessary CE documents in just a few minutes. In expert mode, manufacturer-specific design modifications can also be taken into account.
 

The www.ce-fix.eu internet portal offers an all-in-one solution for all window and door manufacturers. Instead of conducting their own tests, manufacturers can simply use VBH’s test certificates, which are issued in cooperation with ift – Institut für Fenstertechnik e.V. Rosenheim (Rosenheim Institute for Window Technology). In just a few further steps, manufacturers merely select the individual components of their designs for a system check. If a successful prototype test is already available for the design, the result is given the green light via a clearly presented traffic light system.

As system provider, VBH supplies all the necessary CE documents. These include a product passport and system description in the form of component sheets, handling and assembly notes and instructions for in-house quality control. Depending on their company’s size, here users also have the choice between order-based, workstation-based or process-based records.
As an industry-wide solution, the service offered by CE-fix® is aimed at both manufacturers and suppliers of windows and doors. VBH has already arranged for hundreds of tests to be performed: over a million combinations have been stored and further systems are being added on an ongoing basis. If a design deviates slightly from the prototype test there are a number of relevant alternatives to choose from. Further tests can also be arranged by VBH if required.
“The procedure is uncomplicated and cost-effective,” explains Hans Neumeier, CE Officer at VBH Holding AG. “Instead of several thousand euros for each individual test, each design variant merely incurs a maximum processing fee of Euro 200. The CE certificate then applies to the whole product family – to different forms of a window type, for example.” A further special feature is expert mode. Via personalised access users can adapt a design to individual customer requirements – by selecting different glazing, for example. Confirmation of the modified performance features can then be obtained at the click of a button.
